Host Your Next Event at Chelsea

Imagine strolling along a colorful apple orchard in April or watch water lilies bloom in a fairytale moat in May. Famed Landscape architect, Umberto Innocenti assisted Mrs. Moore in executing imaginative settings and vistas.

Trees, hedges, flowers, ferns and ponds were arranged to develop walking paths that provide dramatic contrasts between the mystical and serene, and between open and sheltered sites. Chelsea integrates carefully planned landscaping with its design scheme by treating key windows and glass doors as frames for sensitively composed views. This is one of the estate’s most distinguished features.

Surround yourself with elegant beauty, and create an event that will leave lasting impressions and memories. Royalty and celebrities have known Chelsea’s hospitality.

Make your entrance down the same French Grand Staircase as Coco Chanel and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

Since the turn of the 20th century, world leaders, industrialists, artists and high society have gathered to the North Shore of Nassau County for its temperate climate, unsurpassed natural beauty, glittering social scene, exciting sporting events and spectacular architecture.

Eclectic interior treatments reflected the prevailing definitions of elegance.

The antique pine paneling in the dining room came from the first Duke of Wellington’s country home. Carved teak doors came from the Chinese summer palace; library paneling is Louis XV period, from a château in the Loire Valley. The old oak walls in the first floor powder room are from a 17th century English pub. The breakfast room wall covering is 18th century French hand-painted canvas.

The Sert Gallery features an 85-foot Mural painted in oil over white gold.  It was created for Chelsea, in 1924 by Jose Maria Sert in Paris, muralist for King Alfonso XIII of Spain and an internationally known figure of his time

The courtyard terrace is an area where major entertaining is done. Surrounded by the mansion on three sides, the courtyard terrace gives the feel of being in Tuscany, and when tented it feels like another room in the mansion. The courtyard was based on a design of a terrace at the Bodnant garden in North Wales, Home of Lord Abercomway, a long time friend of Mrs. Moore. Fragrant ground covers form an edge surrounding the paving stones of the terrace. Topiary, espaliers and other manicured plants adorn the walls outlining the lines of the house.
